  1. Design Level Issue review by Ursusjkb on 6/10/2018
    Rating

The design issue described here does not affect how the radio functions as far as I can tell. It may not be a significant issue to you, but as an Icom customer/potential customer you may find it of interest. Icom determined that an IC-F8101 33 purchased in December 2017, and a replacement IC-F8101 33 sent in exchange for the originally purchased radio have an inherent "design level issue" (as described by Icom) that produces a rhythmic pulsing tone (variously described as a ticking, beat tone, or a timing signal). This sound can be heard at the noise floor of the radio and is similar to steady pulsing signal sent by WWV in-between their voice time messages. There is not a fix for this problem if you have one of these radios. It is unknown (to this writer) how many IC-F8101 radios already sold or how many yet to be sold have this issue. It is not known (to this writer) if this "design issue" will be fixed in future production runs of the radio. 73 John K0FTC
