The CFD200 Cable Advantage
The type of coax cable used can cause considerable loss, and the wrong cable can negatively affect performance This is why it is very important to choose the correct cable for the type of antenna you will use. Most mobile radio antenna mounts use RG58 cable, which is fine for use on lower frequency ranges such a VHF, but doesn't perform as well on higher frequencies, like those used by the GMRS.

Melowave brand antenna mounts use CFD200 type cable, which has nearly half the loss of RG58! More power provides better performance, and CDF200 type cable delivers both to your UHF or GMRS antenna.

  1. Good strength on the magnet. review by Nanuk on 5/14/2024

I was concerned that the magnet wasn't going to be strong enough to stay on my Tahoe. But after forgetting to take the antenna off and drive into my garage the antenna was still standing, after I backed out. That shows me it's a good base. I just have to remember not to do that again.

Running an older BTech 50v1 in my truck and could not get a low SWR while the antenna was mounted on the side of the trucks toolbox in the bed area. I stopped trimming the antenna when I couldn't get below 3.4 swr and used it for a time, listening only. Read reviews on many different mag mounts and selected this product. Had to trim another 1/8 inch off the antenna and now the low powered channels run a 1.1 swr, channel 16 runs at 1.2 swr and a specific GMRS repeater in my area runs at a 1.28 swr which is the highest swr for all the channels. I have reached the repeater while traveling as far as 17 miles and enjoyed conversations, or just listen.

I placed the mag mount center-rear on the roof just inches in from the center lights at the top of the cab. I have traveled at 75-85 mph, in higher winds (30-40mpg) and the mag mount has not unseated yet. Even with ice frozen to the antenna, the mount has held on my in and around average 60 mph speeds.

    Quite satisfied.

  3. I like it review by Mikey on 11/28/2022

I got this because of the better quality (lower loss) cable. I haven't done enough testing yet to prove it makes a difference, but it should help. There is a rubber boot that fits around the base of the magnet to prevent scratches. The magnet seems to still hold strong even with the thin rubber layer between it and the metal. Seems good so far.
