Amateur and professional racing continues to grow in popularity, and drivers are always looking for a competitive edge. Two way radios provide drivers with instant communications to the pits, or to spotters. As any racer knows, this ability to communicate provides so many advantages that it is often impossible to imagine not having it.
Radios supporting UHF frequencies are preferred by racecar drivers, including NASCAR. These frequencies penetrate the car better than VHF, delivering more range. On oval tracks of 1 1/2 miles or less, a two watt radio is usually sufficient. On road courses or on larger oval tracks a more powerful 4 watt radio is recommended.
Along with a radio, you will likely also want to consider a headset or a helmet earpiece kit. With the high noise of the race track, it is recommended that you consider something that is capable of providing some level of noise cancellation.
