XLT Painless Programming Cable for Baofeng, Kenwood, and Wouxun

I bought two. Works great. No worry about drivers etc.

The listing points out that the cable has a GENUINE! chip set and will work as expected. That was the case and my program edit on my Boafang went super easy.

Cable works well. Using Windows 11. Works for my Wouxun and my Baofeng.

Had issues with the Baofeng cable. The XLT was definently painless. No problems with Baofengs and my Wouxun.

Not all cables are equal. If they don't have the chip installed in the cable it just won't work. Drove me nuts trying to make a faulty cable work. I finally ordered this cable and "presto" everything works just like they said it would. Life is good when it works.

Cable worked perfectly for radio programming.

Used this on an Intel Mac running Big Sur with Parallels running Windows 10 in a VM. No drivers or anything was required.

It worked as stated in the advertisement. I was able to program my Wouxun KG-905G radios with no problems.

Just a quick note about my experience with this cable in case anyone else has had the same issue. To the point... if you enter frequencies into the (Wouxun radio) software that are outside the range of the radio's transmit capability, it will not "write" to the radio at all. A window will pop up telling you which frequencies are out of range, and once you delete those freqs it will "write" just fine. I wish the pop up window would tell you that. But hey, struggle builds character. I have used this cable on Wouxun models KG-UV9Dplus, KG-UV9P, and KG-Uv9D Mate. It really worked well. Also I DID have to find and download the drivers for it... Windows 10.

I have never derived any use or benefit whatsoever from CHIRP. Across three different computers, it has never worked for me. For those of you who have made it work, good for you.

I tried this cable on a UV5R and it will not read the radio. A BTWR video said drivers are already in this cable and just plugging it into your computer should see the drivers load. That didn't happen on my Dell Latitude with Windows 7. The video says if this doesn't happen, loading them is "intuitive". Seriously. I am not a computer geek so no, it is not intuitive. I require some help and explanation of this process. The BTWR site supposedly had the factory software on it at one time but it is not available now. Why? CHIRP doesn't work for me. If I try to download software from the Baofeng site, it automatically sends me to a RAHR, ROHR, or similar site that wants to sell me drivers or something at a king's ransome. Why is this stuff not available on BTWR's site, anymore?

There are two variants. This was cable self installed the driver software. Easy peezy.

Bought this cable to program Kenwood TK-260G s and TK-272Gs using older Kenwood software and Windows 10. Effortless. Plugged in cable and it worked with no other hassels. Would highly recommend.

Windows 10 found the device with out any fuss. Works well with the radio and vendor software.

Used to program my 805G - worked perfectly.

No need to enter any button commands (I'm looking at you Yaesu) and it really is plug and play. Well made too.

I had the Baofeng cable but it would not work with my Macbook Pro only PC. This cable allows me to run Chirp on my Mac and recognize the USB-C port - where the OEM Baofeng connector cable would not.
It has a LED lights that help you see the connection.

The order of how you plug things in and turn things on seems to make a difference so play around with it if you don't succeed at first.

The cable does just what it says. Plug and play on Windows 10. I did notice I had to push kind of hard to get the connection to “click” in my radio, but that’s more the radio than the cable. Once connected it interfaces with chirp perfectly and allowed me to program my Baofeng UV-5R with no pain. Great investment!

Well worth the money. Windows 8.1 automatically installed the driver when I plugged in the cable. It worked first time with CHIRP, a Baofeng BF-F8HP and a Wouxun KG-UV9P. The COM port number doesn't change when I unplug and replug the cable.

Tip: With the Wouxun KG-UV9P, configure CHIRP to treat it as a KG-UV9D Plus.

Fast shipping. Connected cable to my Windows 7 laptop, connected to internet, downloaded appropriate drivers. Once all setup, connected UV-5R and it worked perfectly! Don’t waste your money on the cheap cables. This one is awesome!!

I am pleased with the functionality and quality of this cable. The installation process was not as 'painless' as advertised. It was mostly procedural issues, which I was able to correct easily. If i, or my Son, need other related products, this will be the first place we will be looking. Thanks.

After fighting the Baofeng cable, this is a lifesaver. I plugged it in, and it worked.

Was advertised as plug and play but it didn't work for me.

It did not work with my Baofeng UV-5R-3 Expensive and disappointing.

The product is of first quality and performs as forecast. The problem is with the software. To this point I have not been able to get the software to load and open. Not your problem, you are the only light at the end of the day, thank you.

This was like having some help to get through the tedious setup.

Works as promised, allors you to read, write and save conf from your radio.

I plugged this in to two different Macs (running 10.10.x and 10.11.x) and it just works. Much better than fighting with different drivers. Haven't tried on Windows 7 computer yet, but it's already stated to work on there. They didn't mention that it has RX/TX lights. That is a big plus. If you plug into a laptop, they might be facing down, but if you use a USB extension you can flip it around. Build quality feels nice too.

I was highly disappointed in the cable and software. I was told that with this cable setting up my radio would be a breeze. Well after several attempts by several people I am no farther ahead then when I purchased it. What a waste of money. I definately would not recommend this item

Have tried several, getting the driver to work is a nightmare. This one is great.

Fiddled around with another cable for awhile, trying to trim it to fit and get it to work on my UV-5R. It would only work intermittent, never got a full download or upload. Got the painless programming cable, plugged it in and it worked right out of the box. Definitely worth it.

I have 4 HT and all are more easily programmed by PC. Using QUIRK, there are no issues except with the Baofeng UV-6R. Nothing programs it, not even Baofeng software. This Painless cable outperforms any other OEM cable hands down. Effortless programming using a variety of programming software. Pay the money-get the satisfaction of accomplishment. It's that easy.

Cable performs as advertised. Cable appears to be very durable as do the connectors. Programming chip appears to work instantly. Fit to Baofeng radio is tight and secure when programming. Lack of instruction sheet or manual could be improved.

did not work, waste of time

I could not program my Baofeng UV5R with a programming cable purchased from another source but after ordering from XLT I was able to program my radio in just minutes. This one works as it should.

There were no written directions, no way to tell what is useful on the disc. I am new to ham radio and don't have a clue about what to do with the info. on the disc.

I have purchased many programming cables for the Baofeng radios and sometimes they work and sometimes they don't; very frustrating. This cable works the first time every time. I intend to get several more!

I'm really pleased with the performance of my Painless Programming Cable. I''m using it to program both a UV-5R and a UV-5R plus from an iMac and an early 2015 MacBook Pro running Mac OS 10.10.5 and it has worked beautifully. I had all but given up on computer programming those radios using the generic programming cable purchased from a major on-line retailer (which wouldn't work with my Windows XP laptop, either).

After trying to program the handheld and not having any luck, this product made it a piece of cake.

Best way to program the UV-5RA Worked first time.

You have to cut small notch just before plug on radio end, or it doesn't seat properly, due to small ridge on radio plug slot. Other than that it is all good.

After reading all the rumors and speculation on other sites about Baofeng programming cables, these gentlemen gave an explanation I could understand and agree with. Folks, the old $6 cable is simply obsolete. Futzing with it got results for me on Windows 7, but after my Windows 8 purchase it was hopeless. Don't freeze your drivers on something that has been replaced by far better. Spring the extra money and get a cable with a chip set that is currently supported. I plugged in the cable and cycled the radio a couple of times. The cable installed itself, just like it was supposed to. It took a couple of tries to sense which serial port the cable was connected to, but then it worked perfectly.

This cable and the online CHRIP software make programming a Boafeng painless.

so happy i purchased this cable. i had previously purchased one of the fake cables, and was forever having to reload the device driver for the fake cable. Sorry i went the cheap route initially. This cable works first & every time its plugged in. Very satisfied with the cable.

Bought the software twice. One microDVD did not load. The other purchase the software on the microDVD was copyable, but did not function. I was trapped. No solution.

Cable works every time. Together with CHIRP I was able to program in my local repeaters and emergency service frequencies in no time flat.

There is plenty of internet advice about what to avoid and which drivers to find and install to make a cheap counterfeit cable work on your computer. So I bought this cable instead. Go on line. Plug the cable into your computer and wait. It takes a few minutes to install and there aren't any screen prompts. I installed it on an XP laptop and a Windows 7 pc without a hitch. I used CHIRP to program my Baofeng UV5R. It works great for me.

This is a better quality cable than you get from Baofeng. My Baofeng cable stopped working after the first upload so I bought an XLT Painless to replace it. It was a plug and play solution. The new cable works with both my desktop and laptop computers. Shipping was super quick, price was very nice as well. Thanks for having the solution to my problem.

I purchased the XLT Painless Programming cable to use on my Baofeng UV-5RE & Windows 7 computer after the OEM cable quit working. The OEM cable required lots of steps and fiddling with the Device Manager to make it work. The XLT cable was truly painless. After plugging the cable into the USB port (without the radio attached), it began searching for device drivers. It found the device driver, then updated a USB driver and everything worked. My only issue was the lack of feedback while updating the drivers, but that may have been a Windows 7 issue. It took several minutes to complete and the dialog box didn't immediately appear to let me know it was working. The supplied CD had the Prolific drivers available, but I didn't need to use them. I had to download the radio to CHIRP first, then upload on my desktop, but on my laptop I could upload immediately. I won't waste my time with any other programming cable in the future.
